About Me and My Blog

About Me

Assalamu Alaikum (Peace and blessings be upon you).

Welcome to Sadaf’s Culinary Adventures! I’m so glad you’re here.

I’m Sadaf, born and raised in India, where my love of food and hospitality first took root. For the past two decades, I’ve been raising my family in North America. I hold both American and Canadian citizenship, and our family is a beautiful blend of cultures. My husband was born in Nigeria, our older daughter and son were born in the United States, and our younger daughter was born in Canada. Today, we happily call Houston, Texas our home.

I have an MBA specializing in Marketing and Human Resources and run an online leather goods business. Over the years, I’ve also enjoyed freelance writing and volunteering with community and social justice organizations. Above all, though, my greatest joy is being a wife and mother. My three children are at the heart of everything I do, and creating wholesome meals and lasting family memories around the dinner table is one of my greatest blessings.

As Muslims, we believe that food is one of Allah’s greatest blessings (ni’mah), bringing families and friends together in gratitude and love. That belief is at the heart of this blog.

How This Blog Began

Like many food bloggers, I never imagined I would one day have a food website.

It all started when I began sharing photos of my home-cooked meals on Facebook. The encouraging feedback from friends—and even complete strangers—was overwhelming. My husband kept suggesting that I start a blog where I could preserve my recipes in one place. I resisted at first because I considered myself a beginner cook.

Thankfully, he didn’t give up.

What began as a simple online recipe collection soon became a passion. Along the way, I expanded beyond recipes to include restaurant reviews, cookbook recommendations, product reviews, travel dining experiences, entertaining ideas, and food events.

More than fifteen years later, this blog has connected me with wonderful readers and fellow food lovers from around the world, and I continue to learn something new every day.

What You’ll Find Here

My recipes are inspired by cuisines from around the world, often with an Indian twist to suit my family’s taste buds.

Since my family has an undeniable sweet tooth, you’ll also find plenty of desserts. I especially enjoy cake decorating and experimenting with festive treats for family celebrations.

As a busy mom, I believe delicious food doesn’t have to be complicated. Most of the recipes you’ll find here are practical, approachable, and designed for everyday family life.

You’ll also discover:

  • Family-friendly restaurant reviews
  • Halal dining guides
  • Cookbook and product reviews
  • Food and travel experiences
  • Holiday entertaining ideas
  • Tips for hosting memorable gatherings

My Cooking Philosophy

In keeping with my Islamic faith, every recipe on this blog uses halal ingredients. You won’t find recipes containing pork or alcohol.

Most ingredients are readily available throughout North America. If an ingredient isn’t available where you live, feel free to reach out and I’ll do my best to suggest a suitable substitute. While I can’t guarantee identical results with substitutions I haven’t personally tested, I’m always happy to help.

Happy cooking, and may Allah Subhan Wa Ta’ala bless your kitchen and your home.
