My kids had been searching for a good halal fried chicken joint ever since we moved to Houston last year. We finally found Louisiana Fried Chicken and Seafood in downtown Houston (Fannin Street) which not only serves great Cajun Fried Chicken but also a wide variety of authentic Southern dishes.
I believe there are a couple of other Louisiana Fried Chicken and Seafood locations in Houston but not all of them are halal. All of the locations are independently owned and managed.
Unlike many other fast food joints, the Fannin Street location was clean and tidy. The decor was simple but bright and cheery. There was ample seating space. The owner is a Muslim brother who personally attends to his customers as guests.
We were a group of around 15 people ranging in age from 4 to 60 years old, who sampled quite a variety of dishes. While kids loved their fried chicken, my personal favorites were the Shrimp Jambalaya and Gumbo. Most of the adults in the group agreed with me. Other favorites included the Grilled Jumbo Shrimp and Chicken Tacos. All the dishes had just the right amount of spice and heat to satisfy our taste buds. The prices were quite reasonable too.
My 7 year old picky eater who has tried quite a number of halal fried chicken joints all over the world including Popeyes, KFC and Al Baik gave the final verdict – “Best fried chicken I have ever tasted!”
If you are in the Houston area and are looking to try out some authentic halal Southern fare , I would definitely recommend Lousiana Famous Fried Chicken and Seafood on 2001 Fannin St, Houston TX 7702. They also offer home delivery through GrubHub, DoorDash and Uber Eats.
