Did you know that kids burn about half the calories in winter as they do in the summer ? It’s hard to maintain our normal activity schedule in this snowy weather. Moreover, with the holiday season here, it is easy to overindulge in unhealthy snacks if we are not careful. One of my family’s favorite snacks which is healthy as well as delicious and convenient is a pack of single serving shelf stable milk which we can take along anywhere we go since it does not require refrigeration. So whether we are out for holiday shopping or for the kids’ ice skating lessons, a pack of shelf stable milk is the perfect way to rehydrate and curb hunger anytime, anywhere.

Shelf safe milk is real Grade A milk, packaged in milk boxes that don’t need refrigeration until they are opened (like juice boxes). It is Milk Unleashed. (It is shelf safe and unleashed from the refrigerator!) Available in white and several flavours, my kids love it especially the chocolate flavour, and an 8 oz. carton provides 9 grams of protein and 15 other essential vitamins and minerals.

We also do a lot of entertaining during the holidays and shelf stable milk is a great way to save some space in the refrigerator. It’s also a good idea to stock up some packs of shelf stable milk as part of our severe weather emergency kit. While at home we sometimes use our packs of shelf stable chocolate milk to make hot chocolate and enjoy it around the fireplace while it’s snowing outside. Sometimes I jazz it up with marshmallows (for the kids) or instant coffee powder (for myself).
Shelf stable milk is available in single serving as well as 1 litre tetra pak cartons at major retailers across Canada.
