After my gallbladder surgery two years ago I had been facing a number of digestive issues and had to modify my diet to include healthier alternatives. A friend of mine suggested me to consume yogurt with every meal as it has been found to be excellent for the digestive system because of the presence of probiotics. Probiotics, derived from the Greek word meaning “for life,” are friendly bacteria that are similar to the beneficial bacteria found in the digestive system. They work by helping to break down foods that enter the digestive tract and fight off unhealthy bacteria and yeast.
The other health benefits of eating yogurt, from helping build stronger bones to boosting the immune system are also well known. Ever since I try to consume yogurt in the form of raitas, smoothies or simply as a healthy dessert almost on a daily basis.
I had some beetroots in my fridge which were left over after making a vegetable pulao last night, so I decided to make this simple beetroot raita as a side dish for my lunch. Beets are a potent source of antioxidants and nutrients like folic acid, magnesium, potassium, iron, vitamin C and soluble fibre making this simple condiment a really healthy one.

It’s definitely a very healthy choice for pregnant women. Yogurt is rich in calcium whereas beets are rich in folic acid- two of the main nutrients essential during pregnancy.
